Instructions
- Soak breadcrumbs in milk for 10 minutes.
- Combine ground meats in a large bowl, gently mixing with hands.
- Add soaked breadcrumbs (with any unabsorbed milk), egg, onion, garlic, parsley, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to the meat mixture.
- Gently mix all ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Shape the mixture into an oval loaf on a parchment-lined baking sheet or press into a greased loaf pan.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- While the meatloaf is baking, prepare the sauce by sautéing garlic in olive oil, then adding crushed tomatoes, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Pour the tomato sauce over the meatloaf.
- Optional: Return the meatloaf to the oven for 5 minutes to let the sauce glaze the top.
