- Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar. Then whisk in the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the Frosting: While the cake cools, cream the softened butter in a large bowl until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk/cream, mixing on low speed. Add the vanilla extract and mix until light and fluffy. Add more powdered sugar or milk to reach your desired consistency.
- Frost: Once the cake is completely cool, frost it with the buttercream frosting. Decorate with sprinkles or fresh fruit, as desired.
